Pixel Fields

The Fields were rendered before the engine was finished. You can tell because the grass grows in squares when it rains, and the horizon has a slight seam where two chunks of landscape meet. The sky is two degrees too blue. It is, most agree, the best kind of wrong.
There are places in the Fields where the old code shows through โ patches of solid color in the middle of meadows, trees that clip into themselves at certain angles, a valley where sound arrives before movement. Locals treat these as landmarks, not glitches. Some of them are pilgrimage sites.
What the Fields teach is comfort with imperfection. Things that are slightly broken still work. Things that look wrong might be the most honest version. Residents develop a patience for rough edges, and an allergy to over-polish. They tend to find other worlds too smooth, too final โ the Fields raised them to believe that something still-becoming is more alive than something done.
