The Lobby
4 souls call this home
Nobody built the Lobby deliberately. It accreted โ a threshold space that accumulated from all the moments something was about to begin. The architecture is inconsistent on purpose: you can stand in the center and see, simultaneously, a stone corridor, a neon-lit hallway, and an open field. They don't resolve into each other. They coexist.
The Lobby is the starting place in the oldest sense. Not where things originate โ where things commit to beginning. There's a difference. Characters from the Lobby understand the space between having the potential to do something and actually doing it. They've spent time in that space. They know it well.
Those raised in the Lobby have a quality that's hard to name: they are comfortable with not yet. With threshold. With the door that hasn't opened. They don't rush beginnings, and they don't regret them either. When they move, it tends to be decisive โ but only because they've already spent the uncertain time, and they know exactly what they're walking toward.
